the girvan website
One of the projects in GoGirvan’s original remit was to develop a website to promote Girvan to the community and wider audience. The website was developed by a web development company and served GoGirvan well in the early days. However, it could not be maintained by GoGirvan – not even the simplest of changes could be done (for example adding events to the Event Calendar) without paying the development company for the work. This was proving very costly.
In late August 2024, it was agreed by the Board that a new website would be developed in-house by Go Girvan – we now had the technical skills on the Board. Having drawn up the requirements for the new website and assessed the various options available, the Board chose a new host and a Scottish domain for the website. We also broadened the remit of the website to cover a wider area of Carrick, promoting events, businesses and things to do and see around Carrick, with Girvan serving as the central town connecting the surrounding villages.
The new website – www.gogirvan.scot – was started in October and we now have a stunning and functional site highlighting the incredible range of places to see and things to do in Girvan & South Carrick.
Because of the skills of the new Development Officer and members of the Board, the new website is easily maintained in-house, enabling the events calendar to be kept up to date at all times and ensuring that everything Girvan & South Carrick has to offer is easy to find for the community and visitors alike. As with all websites it is updated on a regular, ongoing basis to ensure accuracy, with local businesses and community organisations being actively encouraged to send information and events to GoGirvan and to foster a sense of community ownership of the website.
