GoGirvan Community led regeneration

Our organisation is dedicated to  the development of  our community through fostering the arts, culture, heritage, and science for the benefit of Girvan & South Carrick’s residents.

Our vision is to:

Promote Girvan as a Vibrant Community We aim to boost Girvan’s profile as a lively town with a strong community spirit. Through both digital and in-person initiatives, we strive to shape positive perceptions of Girvan among locals and visitors. Our efforts focus on preserving, conserving, and protecting Girvan’s natural and cultural environment and built heritage.

Enhance Community Wellbeing We endeavour to provide, maintain, and manage facilities for recreational, heritage, and cultural activities to improve the wellbeing of Girvan’s residents and the wider public. These facilities will serve as hubs for community engagement and enrichment.

Build Sustainable Partnerships: We work to establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with community groups, voluntary organisations,  public sector bodies and businesses. These partnerships are essential for creating new opportunities for the community and sustainably developing Girvan’s visitor offering.

Our main activities include:

  • Developing and delivering GoGirvan’s community events, such as the Girvan Tattie Fest and the Girvan Christmas Market, The Window Box Project and The Ailsa Craig Land and Sea Festival.
  • Working on the delivery of a successful community asset transfer of the Girvan Town House for the benefit of the community.
  • Working towards Coach Town Certification for Girvan in order to boost day visitor numbers and consumer spend in Girvan.
  • Building community and visitor experiences which will be delivered by local artists, artisans and businesses.
  • Continuing to build and maintain the Girvan website, which promotes Girvan & South Carrick its history, culture, events, businesses and local organisations and their projects.

GoGirvan: Our Commitment to Fair Work

GoGirvan is committed to being a fair and progressive employer. We believe that a positive and inclusive workplace is essential for the success and wellbeing of both our organisation and our employees. Our approach is guided by the Scottish Government's Fair Work First policy and the dimensions of effective voice, opportunity, security, fulfilment, and respect.

Our key commitments

  • Effective voice: We will ensure that our employees have a genuine and effective voice in decisions that affect them. This includes providing appropriate channels for open communication, dialogue, and feedback, and involving staff in key policy and practice discussions.
  • Opportunity: We are dedicated to providing opportunities for our employees to develop and progress. We will invest in workforce development, training, and skills enhancement to support personal and professional growth.
  • Security: We are committed to providing secure work with fair pay and dependable conditions. We will pay at least the real Living Wage to all staff. We will also ensure fair and appropriate contracts that do not involve the use of zero-hours contracts.
  • Fulfilment: We will cultivate a workplace culture that fosters a sense of belonging and enables employees to find meaning in their work. We support a positive work-life balance and provide roles that are engaging and provide autonomy.
  • Respect: We will treat all employees with dignity and respect, creating an environment that is free from bullying, harassment, and discrimination. We will actively address workplace inequalities and have clear, transparent grievance procedures.
  • Flexible and family-friendly working: We will offer flexible and family-friendly working arrangements where possible, available to all staff from their first day of employment, to help them balance their work and personal lives.
  • Fire and rehire: We oppose the use of 'fire and rehire' practices and are committed to working constructively with our employees to manage change.

A continuous journey

We recognise that fair work is an ongoing journey of continuous improvement. GoGirvan will regularly review its policies and practices to ensure we continue to provide a fair and supportive working environment for our entire team.
